About Leonard Meyer

Leonard Meyer is a rancher, author, and publisher. He runs Luna Mesa Ranch in Avondale, Colorado, with his wife Brenda, raising a registered Dexter herd and pastured poultry on the Southern High Plains. Before coming to the ranch full-time in 2025, he spent more than five decades in the American beef and food industry — starting as a feed yard hand at thirteen, through twenty years in industrial refrigeration at IBP and ConAgra packing plants, corporate work at Safeway in Denver, and fifteen years at Trane Technologies. He brings that working knowledge of cattle and the cold chain to the small-scale operation he runs today.

He is the author of the American Sovereignty Trilogy — Outside the Gates, The American System, and The Donroe Doctrine — and of History of Dexter Cattle, the first full-length scholarly history of the breed. His latest book, The Dexter Way: Raising Dexter Cattle on the American System, is the first volume in The Luna Mesa Method, his working-rancher method series. All titles are published by Luna Mesa Ranch Press.
